About us
There is a kind of honesty that only open country can ask of you — the kind that arrives when the land is quiet, the horses are watching, and there is finally nothing left to perform. The Remuda was built for that moment.
Rooted in the high desert of Mountain Home, Idaho, our retreat brings together horse-led wisdom, land-rooted presence, and a premium, unhurried experience designed for people who have been carrying more than they let on. The Remuda exists to return people to themselves — through the horses, through the land, and through the kind of unhurried presence that neither a spa nor a therapy office can fully provide.
We are not a resort. We are not a clinical program. We are a place where the horse is the practitioner, the land is a participant, and you are welcomed exactly as you are — without performance, without pressure, without pretense.

The woman behind the herd
The Remuda is led by Rachel Lloyd, founder of the western lifestyle brand Rawhide Gypsy — built for women who carry grit in their bones and grace in their souls. What began as a way to honor western heritage, modern grit, and feminine soul became something larger: an invitation to bring people back to the horses, the land, and themselves.
Rachel’s life has been measured in early mornings, long rides, and the patient work of earning a horse’s trust. The barn taught her what no classroom could: that showing up matters more than getting it right, and that a hard day looks smaller from the back of a good horse.
Rawhide Gypsy gave that belief a voice. The Remuda gives it a place — a stretch of Idaho high desert where women, children, and families are met with the same steadiness Rachel offers her own herd.

Dates & scheduling
Retreat dates open throughout the year, shaped by weather, horse readiness, and how many guests we can host well. Confirmed dates appear under Upcoming Retreats and are updated as new openings are released.
Most guests reserve two to six weeks out. Smaller sessions fill quickly in spring and fall, so if a date matters to you, send the inquiry early and we'll hold what we can.
Yes. Private sessions, family gatherings, and group events can often be scheduled outside the posted calendar. Share your preferred dates in the form above and we'll do our best to make it work.
Ranch days move with the sky. If conditions aren't safe for horses or guests, we reschedule you to the next date that fits — no penalty, no rushed decisions.
What to bring
Comfortable layers that can handle dust, sun, and a cool morning. Closed-toe boots or shoes with a small heel are ideal. Add a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
A refillable water bottle, a light jacket, and anything that helps you settle — a journal, a camera, a good pair of gloves. A full packing list is sent once your date is confirmed.
Yes. Certified helmets and any equine safety equipment are provided. You're welcome to bring your own ASTM-certified helmet if you prefer.
Most full-day retreats include a simple ranch meal and drinks throughout the day. Anything specific to your event is listed on that event's page.
How the retreat works
Not at all. Every retreat is paced to the person in front of us. Time with the horses is shaped by presence, not performance, and plenty of guests never leave the ground.
We start slow — coffee, introductions, and time with the herd. Guided groundwork or riding follows, with long pauses built in. Days end the way they began: unhurried.

Many activities adapt well. Ground-based equine work, observation, and seated participation are all meaningful parts of the day. Tell us what you need in your inquiry and we'll plan it with you.
Family and youth experiences are available by arrangement. Some retreats are adults-only; age guidance is listed with each event.
